Lack of Awareness, Overgeneralization….in Training Program.....Often the leading Cause of Training Injury and Sub Par Performances

“Ignorance is Not Bliss”

Lack of Awareness and Overgeneralization in Training Program
...most common culprit in training injuries and sub-par performance for runners and
triathletes. ...Dr. James N. Wells D.C. … Sports Wellness…May 25, 2009

With participation in running, marathons and triathlons at an all time high for novice and intermediate level participants, so are injuries do to a lacking of awareness from those who train for and attempt to participate in these events. More then ever before we are having an increase in joint, connective tissues, and musculoskelaetal injuries that are preventable if these individuals would have only taken proper pro-active precautions and incorporated them into their training program. Not to mention chronic inflammation due to oxidative stress. While there is reliable information available it needs to be applied appropriately. Unfortunately for most, this is not an easy task because they do not know where to start. From the early to the late 80’s, I had the privilege of conducting presentations to athletes, doctors and coaches in the arena of running, cycling and triathlon. Many of these individual’s athletic performances have yet to be duplicated to this date. Yet, over 25 years later, the principles haven’t changed much, but there is a larger incidence of occurrence of injury for today’s participants in such events… yet the over all times have made little improvement. In fact in most events, the average times of today are slower then they were 15-20+ years ago. With all of what we should know today, more individuals are getting injured from overtraining or inappropriate training management. Over a 20-25 year period of time you would think that the average times should have resulted in being faster with less injuries.

….Stay Tuned …next post …hopefully by mid week.
